Welcome to Vermicomposting: Turn Organic Waste into Nutrient-Rich Fertilizer!

This course module introduces a simple and eco-friendly way to convert organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer using African Nightcrawler worms. It’s perfect for beginners and anyone interested in gardening or small-scale business opportunities. You will be guided through each step of the vermicomposting process, from setting up your worm bin to caring for your worms and maintaining a healthy composting system. You will also learn how composting works, the role of worms in breaking down organic materials, and why this method is good for the environment.

By the end of the module, learners will have the knowledge and skills to produce high-quality compost, improve soil health, reduce household waste, and support a more sustainable, eco-friendly community.

Learning Objectives: 

At the end of this module, learners should be able to:

1. Explain the basic concept, benefits, and importance of vermicomposting.
2. Identify appropriate materials and worm species used in vermicomposting.
3. Set up and maintain a simple and efficient vermicomposting system for healthy worm production.
4. Harvest and utilize vermicast for plant growth and apply vermicomposting practices at home or in a small-scale enterprise.

The original signed certificate may be claimed physically at the ViCARP Office at Visayas State University. If you are unable to claim it personally, you may request delivery through LBC or any preferred courier service (shipping fees and arrangements may apply).
